Article: A review of the implementation of R-imperatives in circular construction
- Publikationen

Globally, the construction industry has the potential to implement circular economy principles and transform its practices to reduce the environmental impact of the production and use of materials.
This article by Pauline Jegen, Lukas Gast and Martin Faulstich extends the current research by providing insights into the current state of the distribution of R imperatives in circular construction articles. It aims to comprehensively shed light on the current state of research in the field of circular economy with the help of a systematic literature review, focusing on the 9R framework. The R imperatives are used to analyze which imperatives are particularly emphasized in existing research and in which specific phases of the life cycle of buildings, building components and materials circular economy measures are used. A total of 182 articles were examined.
This focus becomes clear:
- Recycling, rethinking (rethink) and reusing (reuse)
There were hardly any references to the R imperatives: refuse, reduce, repair, refurbish, remanufacture, repurpose and recover.
